We All Need Some Calm

IMG_5295

In an age of information overload, schedule overload, work overload we are burning the wick from both ends. All. The. Time.  And since time becomes so limited you need something that can help you daily without taking time away. Oils are the answer. Diffuse, Roll. I created a series on Instagram to share what our favorite oils are for sleep and calm. I names it the Valor + Diamonds Sleep Series, aka #vdsleepseries. For eight days straight I shared our favorite diffuser blends and rollers to support all those calming vibes. I was able to illustrate how incredibly easy it is to incorporate oils into your daily routine.

IMG_5621Day 1: Lavender + Frankincense
Let’s start with these two rockstars! Both of which happen to come in the starter kit! Both of which you won’t be able to do life without one you start oiling. This combination has really grown on me! I wasn’t a fan of the aroma Frank gave off but now I LOVE it, after 3 months of using it daily! I committed myself because I know the benefits far outweigh anything! Proof is our daughter Franki. She has been having sleep issues + is one of the biggest reasons I grabbed a kit, to help + support her needs. I’ve noticed a considerable change in her quality of sleep within the last couple weeks after diffusing ONLY these two at bedtime.

Lavender: Known as the Swiss Army knife of oils. This oil is actually listed in the British Pharmacopoeia…which defines the UK’s pharmaceutical standards. Thought that was cool for all the oil skeptics. Lavender is calming, relaxing, balancing both physically + emotionally. Lavender has been proven to heighten relaxation + reduce stress.

Frankincense: The anointing oil. Did you know this oil was one of the gifts given to Christ at birth. No joke. Frank is said to promote meditation, relaxation and uplifts spirits.

Day 2: Peace & Calming
I haven’t met a person who didn’t like this blend. It’s actually one that tends to get hoarded a lot by oilers. I think because it’s so versatile, for adults, kids (dog babies). This was the VERY FIRST oil I bought outside of the starter kit. For Franki, but now I use it more than her! It’s still my favorite for relaxing. It also makes a great roller! I roll the girls feet after bath time. When diffused, it helps calm tensions + uplift the spirit, promoting relaxation + a deep sense of peace. When massaged on the bottoms of the feet, it can help bring a peaceful night. This one also may be calming + comforting to young children after an overactive + stressful day.

My favorite uses:
+Rub 1-2 drops on the bottom of the feet + on the back of the neck before bedtime to promote sound sleep.
+Apply behind the ears of your pet when he is scared of thunder or stressed.
+Dilute a drop with carrier oil and rub on a child’s tummy or bottom of feet to calm a tantrum. (I made a roller)
+Diffuse in the home or in the car to calm overactive children.

Day 3: Sleepyize
There is a reason I purchase multiple bottles a month. You need this. I can’t mom without it! It’s magical. It comes prediluted + the aroma that lingers in my girls rooms is so pretty. Think that sweet clean newborn smell! And for anyone who is looking for restful sleep or a peaceful + calming environment, just diffuse away!

This blend has…
+Lavender
+Geranium
+Roman chamomile
+Tangerine
+Bergamot
+Sacred Frankincense
+Valerian
+Rue

This bottle is only $16.75…a great price for all that it offers! You MUST add this to your ER…kids or no kids!

IMG_5329

Day 4: Stress Away
This one is my 5 years old’s favorite oil so we diffuse it in her room all the time, especially at night. I mix it with Sleepyize or Lavender + it’s so incredible! She also has a roller of just Stress Away + grapeseed oil that she carries everywhere. She knows to use it when she needs to feel calm or if she is getting worked up. She also rolls it before bed! Below are some of our favorite ways to use this one.

+Diffuse it around your home after a long day for a fresh, soothing aroma.
+Apply to your wrists or back of neck while at work or school for all the calm.
+Add a few drops to a cotton ball and place it in the air vent of your car during long drives or during rush-hour traffic to create a calming environment. Or a car diffuser.
+Send kids to school on test day with it.
+Apply it to your wrists to wear it as a perfume.

IMG_5299

Day 5: Gentle Baby
Don’t let the name fool you! Gentle Baby is not just for babies, it’s so relaxing, supports those emotions, may help in reducing stress + promoting restful sleep for bigs + littles. It’s also great for your skin. My favorite way to use it is simple…diffuse. I have one next to my bed at all times. It’s a fresh clean aroma that no one can dislike, men included.
This blend has:
+Coriander
+Geranium
+Palmarosa
+Lavender
+Ylang Ylang
+Roman Chamomile
+Bergamot
+Lemon
+Jasmin
+Rose

If you don’t have this, you do not know what you’re missing!

Day 6: Tranquil Roller
This roller bro! I use this every single night at bedtime on my wrists. It’s heavenly. I’ve started rolling it on the girls as well right before story time. It’s proprietary essential oil combination with a warm, slightly sweet fragrance. Just inhale deeply or roll onto your wrists to enjoy a moment of tranquility.

Having this roller on hand is like inviting a little Zen into your day. It combines Lavender, Cedarwood + Roman Chamomile. It’s become such a fave that it looks like I’ll need to add it to my ER monthly! Some ways to use it:

+Keep a roll-on in your purse or the kids’ backpacks for busy work or test days.
+Apply Tranquil to the bottoms of feet during evening routines.
+Inhale or roll Tranquil over your heart during troubling times for a centering aroma.
+Wind down after a hectic day by applying Tranquil to your neck or shoulders, then massaging for 20–30 seconds.

If you haven’t tried Tranquil PLEASE try it + comment below to let me know what you think! Who else loves?

Day 7: Roman Chamomile
I received this gem for free in my ER order from June + it is currently out of stock. Reason number 12345 why I love Essential Rewards, snagging items that are rare! Once it’s back you must get one before it’s gone! It has a warm, sweet scent that is beyond relaxing + calming for both mind + body. It has that true spa smell. Its gentleness makes it wonderful for kiddos which is always a bonus. I actually used this in Liv’s bath when she was an infant to unwind before bedtime. My favorite ways to us it:

+Place one drop in your hands rub together + inhale deeeeeeply.
+Diffuse around the house when you want to unwind or calm your mind from a crazy day. Love blending with Lavender or Cedarwood.
+Rub on your feet, temples or back of neck for sleep or restlessness.
+Add a couple drops to a bath.

IMG_6065

Day 8: Cedarwood
I don’t even have a ton to write about this oil. So good I threw a roller top on it + roll it every single night before bed on my wrists and feet. All the mamas say amen.

Cedarwood is known by some as the “sleepy oil”. Supporting the sleepy hormones. When diffuser it’s calming + comforting. I actually didn’t love it at first but after a month of using it I was hooked. Blend with Lavender + night night.

There are so many oils that I could go on and on about but these are ones that I always recommend starting out with and keeping as a core part of your arsenal.

Three Little Letters That Make a Big Difference

il_fullxfull.905898475_nnhhCBD. It ain’t what you think. In a good way.

There has been so much hype all over the internet and social media about CBD oil. After doing my research and asking some people I trust I decided to give it a try. The main reason I was going to use it was for Franki and her sleep issues, or lack thereof. But as I kept reading I saw how beneficial it is for stress, anxiety, headaches, cramps, inflammation…so much. Stress and anxiety are two things I suffer with silently. Honestly, you’d never know. I have a good game face, most of the time. I have PTSD (self diagnosed) from losing my dad and all the things that come along with it. And honestly the every day stressors can get to you. So my interest was totally peaked. I was now looking for myself.

What is CBD?

It is Cannabidiol, or CBD, one of the most abundant chemicals found in marijuana plants. The difference is it does not have the psychoactive properties of tetrahydrocannabinol (aka THC), CBD is NOT intoxicating.

The brand I decided on was Thoughtcloud, I was not given it for free to advertise or promote. This is a real person giving her real reviews. This brand is Colorado born and bred…a BIG DEAL! Colorado requires pot products be tested for potency and purity, so Thoughtcloud lab tests its purity which is important (to me). There are so many out there.

IMG_1448

I am a skeptic by nature so I wasn’t about to hop on my Instagram page and shout about how amazing it was after trying it once. There is ENOUGH of that going around. I promised to give it a try for a month. So I did.

What do I think? I think I should have tried it sooner.

How do I feel? Like I don’t have a stick in my ass all the time anymore. I don’t yell as much at the kids. But I do notice a difference if I do not take it. I stopped a couple days to test and it’s true. So it seems like something you need to take regularly if you are struggling. I just feel like things roll off my shoulders a little more.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Don’t just take it to take it because others are. If you feel a real reason to I would definitely give it a try. Do your research and choose one you feel is safe. The CBD I use has only one ingredient, hemp! Their extracts contain 100% organic hemp oil and our proprietary full spectrum CBD concentrate. There are no other additives, preservatives, emulsifiers, or flavorings.

How do I take it? I ingest. I don’t vape. I’m too afraid of the lasting effects in my lungs. I’ve heard of buildup and I’m not going to chance it. I just take drops in my mouth and add to my smoothies. It tastes like Im doing something illegal, and I LIKE IT.

In closing. I’m a believer. I would recommend it to anyone who has been on the fence. Do your research. Be careful. Read how to use it. I know it is “safe” but you can never be too careful.

They Say it’s Nature’s Way

Life can be ironic…

Last week, a few hours after I wrote

about my recent loss the doctor called with the pathology report. I was able to receive this report since I decided to have a D&C this time around. I honestly didn’t even know it was an option until this miscarriage. It came back as Trisomy 16. You know when people try to make you feel better (and it doesn’t) and they say things like “it’s natures way”? Well after receiving the results I actually understand now. It’s natures way.

Although it doesn’t negate the ravages of this storm. It does give me closure in some way. There was a chromosomal abnormality and my body did not let the development of my baby go on. I’m thankful in a way. I find it incredible actually. I cannot imagine if the baby developed with Trisomy 16…and while further along we would have been faced with the reality of our baby having a heart defect, facial deformities, respiratory abnormalities, scoliosis and cognitive impairment. The pain now would not compare to then, when at 12+ weeks the doctors are asking if you want to keep the baby or terminate the pregnancy. Having to go through the pain of “deciding”. And then having to live with the decisions you made…either way. I don’t know. It really sucks. But now I know it wasn’t anything I did or could have done. And the likelihood of it happening again right after is very low. So to anyone out there going through this. I hope my journey helps you cope a bit. And understand it’s not your fault. I know your pain. It will be okay. PS I didn’t think I’d be posting this pic in this way, wishing it could have been a happy memory but if I can help just one person than it’s worth it.

I Show My Scars…

IMG_8245

Sharing something personal this week. Something I’ve been holding onto and debating whether or not to open up about. But I’ve decided staying true to who I am and the whole reason I started blogging openly about motherhood and life. I try to be transparent and keep it real, which I find is important in this age of people portraying perfection and only showing their highlight reel.

So I’ll just say it. I recently went through something miraculous, amazing and f*cking awful as it comes. The first week of February I found out we were expecting baby #3! A total surprise and blessing. After taking it all in I was beyond thrilled, while the hub was still in shock a bit. Anyone who knows me well knows my dream is being a mamabear…and to a mini tribe has been life long. Then that all came crashing down. I went in for my first prenatal appointment at 8 weeks and the OB couldn’t find anything, just a growing gestational sac, no baby. We thought maybe my retroverted uterus was making it difficult because with Franki, the OB actually couldn’t find her and I needed another scan. So the next day I was sent to the hospital for a more high tech ultrasound to see if she was missing anything. They found the yolk sac and fetal pole measuring 6 1/2 weeks but no heartbeat. Words that are all too familiar. There was no bleeding, my numbers were soaring, I still had pregnancy symptoms… exhaustion, sore boobs, cravings BUT there was no developing fetus. A week later I got another blood draw to check my levels, before doing anything. The numbers came back still climbing. So I was asked to come back in for another ultrasound to see what is going on to make sure dating wasn’t off. I did think for a minute…”Could this be a miracle? Did something change? Are prayers actually being answered?” But the ultrasound was clear. No progression. No miracle. No growing baby. A feeling of emptiness flooded my body and my heart.

IMG_8169So here I am, going through all these emotions in such a short period. From shock to happiness, excitement and joy to pure, raw, numbing and painful sadness. You see…a woman becomes a mom at first sight of those two pink lines. I thought this was a true blessing and miracle because I always wanted three children and didn’t think it was going to happen in this lifetime.

Why am I sharing this super personal information, some people would never EVER dream of sharing? It’s simple…”I show my scars so that others may know they can heal.” Because there are SO MANY OTHERS, like me, who are suffering in silence, in a place of pure isolation…even today I bet, one of you is going through it. So here I am 1 in 4…AGAIN! It sucks. It’s f*cked up. Life’s f*cked up. And messy and beautiful at the same time. You can be overjoyed and happy and thinking about the future with another blessing and then have that ripped out of your heart in a minute. So to you out there…I see you, I hear you, I feel you, I know your pain, it’s okay to be sad, it’s okay to be angry and you WILL get through this. I WILL get through this. How do I know? Because it’s happened to me before, I lost my very first pregnancy. And then our rainbow appeared, our Livvi. So now…I will count my blessings and focus on my two greatest ones, my beautiful, crazy, sometimes relentlessly annoying and insane, loving daughters. And hope maybe one day a rainbow will appear again. If not, I guess that’s life, I will always wonder who those two babies would have been but I know I am lucky to have two earthside.

Let me leave you with this quote. One that has gotten me through this difficult time… “I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born.” Isaiah 66:9 Take that for what it is, whether it’s a baby, a project or a new found passion in life. No mud. No lotus.
